Asphalt
Asphalt driveways and carparks are the most cost effective alternative to concrete driveways. This pavement consist of a properly prepared base and associated drainage followed by an overlay (typically 30mm thick) of asphalt which is rolled or compacted while still hot. Asphalting can also be contoured to provide drainage within the surface (NB. Asphalt is also called "hotmix")
Bituminous Sealing
Bituminous sealing of driveways and carparks offers a cheaper solution to asphalting and is by far the most cost effective for long driveways in semi-rural and country areas. This pavement consist of a properly prepared base and associated drainage, then hot bitumen is sprayed onto the surface followed by two layers of aggregate (usually blue metal) which is then rolled into the surface. (N.B. Bituminous sealing is also called "two coat sealing")
